Day 204: Hampton Court, UK
Today Michelle whisked me away for a couple of days for my birthday. The first place she took me was Hampton Court Palace and Gardens. This is probably my favourite day date so far as I have wanted to come here for a several years. Since learning about the Tudors in Primary School I have always been a huge geek when it comes to Henry VIII and learning about him and his history. It seems we had some tagalongs though as Moose and Bear took some selfies!
Cardinal Wolsey began the construction of the original Tudor palace in the 16th century. Henry VIII was soon attracted to it and brought all six of his wives here. After this William III and his wife Mary II took to the throne they had a new palace built. Then Georgian kings and princes occupied the palace. In 1737 after royalty had left aristocrats moved in. But in 1838 it was Queen Victoria who opened the palace to the public and tourists and visitors have flocked here ever since.
